What must I do to be saved?

According to the Bible, when the apostle Paul and his friend Silas were imprisoned at Philippi they began to pray and sing hymns.

According to the tradition, this is where Paul and Silas spent the night

Then an earthquake struck and shook the foundations of the prison enough to open the prison doors, open up the stocks, and free the prisoner’s chains from the walls.

When the jailer rushed in he found the cells wide open and was terrified because he knew that he would be put to death for failing in his duty.

He figures that taking his own life is a better option than the Romans doing it and so he drew his sword and was about to kill himself. But - “Paul shouted, ‘Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!’”

He then brought them out and asked, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’” The $64,000 question isn’t it.

So what does Paul tell him? He doesn’t make a list of demands or offer him a practical message like “Follow these five tips for being a better jailer, or observe these eight steps to the victorious life and you will be saved.”

No, none of that.  Paul says it so simply, so matter-of-factly.

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved — you and your whole household.”

Are you believing in the Lord Jesus today?
