After the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem was completed the Israelites got together and praised God. You can read their prayer in Nehemiah chapter 9
It tells us so much about
God – Who He is and what He has done.It reveals to us so much about God's character.
And
it’s a great way to pray. To use scripture as a springboard. If you find it
difficult to pray or at least difficult to get started then read some scripture
and thank God for what you discover there.
They have probably been reading the first 5 books of the Bible, Genesis,
Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy and Joshua.
And
so what we find in these books is offered back to God in the prayer.
Here’s
who they pray God is. This is who they declare God to be in their prayer.
First
they say there’s one God.
That
God is our creator, our sustainer, our saviour, our covenant maker.
He
is faithful, righteous, miraculous, glorious, powerful, our judge, our
provider, our leader, our law giver.
He
is gracious, forgiving, merciful, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love,
enduring, our teacher, our conqueror,
the
giver of our children, the crusher of our enemies, the builder of our homes,
the
blesser of our work, the provider of our meals, the chastiser of our sin, the
hearer of our prayer,
the
sender of our saviour, the answer to our hopes, the forgiver of our sins, the
one who sends our prophets.
He
is great, mighty, awesome, righteous and altogether perfect in all He does all
the time for everyone.
That’s
a great prayer.
He’s
a great God!
