The Bible - Part 2

God has chosen to communicate with us through his Word, the Bible. It is the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct. If you study, hear read, memorise and meditate on the scriptures you can get to know God better, understand more of his plan for your life and discover new truths about Him.
The Bible is the most remarkable and unique book ever written. It is the world’s bestselling book. It is made up of a collection of 66 books that are divided into 2 parts: the Old Testament (39 books) and the New Testament (27 books).

The word "testament" means agreement or covenant. It refers to God's dealing with the human race. The Old Testament was written before Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem and the New Testament was written after he rose from the grave and went to heaven. Some 40 different people wrote the Bible during a period covering over 15 centuries and in three languages - Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.

All of this would be impossible unless the Bible had God as its author. The Holy Spirit inspired the message of the entire Bible.

The Old Testament tells mainly about the acts of God from the creation of the universe up to the time of Christ. The New Testament covers the time span from the birth of Christ until the second coming of Christ, which is still in the future.

The Old Testament explains why we need to be made free from sin. It also tells of God's promises of a Saviour that will save God's people from sin. The New Testament tells how that Saviour came and how he changes men's lives up to the present day.
