Paul is often thought of as a man of action,
busy about the Lord’s work - journeying, preaching, discussing, persuading and
planting churches. Yes he did all these things and more but he was also a great
man of prayer.
I often find it useful to take his prayers and use
them as a basis for my own.
Maybe you might like to try it too.
Maybe you might like to try it too.
Romans
1:8–10
|
First, I
thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is
proclaimed in all the world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my
spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention
you always in my prayers…

1
Corinthians 1:4–9
|
I give
thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given
you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all
speech and all knowledge— even as the testimony about Christ was
confirmed among you— so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you
wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to
the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful,
by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our
Lord.

Ephesians
1:3–5
|
Blessed be
the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ
with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose
us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and
blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons
through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,

2
Corinthians 1:3–4
|
Blessed be
the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of
all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be
able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which
we ourselves are comforted by God.
|
Philippians
1:3–6
|
I thank my
God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you
all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel
from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a
good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
|
Philippians
1:9–11
|
And it is my
prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all
discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure
and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of
righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of
God.
|
Colossians
1:3–4, 13-14
|
We always
thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since
we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all
the saints, … He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and
transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have
redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
|
1
Thessalonians 1:2–3

We give
thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our
prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and
labour of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
|
2
Thessalonians 1:11–12
|
To this end we
always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may
fulfil every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so
that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him,
according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
|
Philemon 4–6
|
I thank my
God always when I remember you in my prayers, because I hear of your
love and of the faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus and for all the
saints, and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective
for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of
Christ.
|
Ephesians
1:15–23
|
For this
reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love
toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you
in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge
of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know
what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his
glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable
greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his
great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead
and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all
rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is
named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all
things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church,
which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
|
1 Timothy
2:1–3
|
First of
all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and
thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high
positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in
every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our
Saviour,
|
Philippians
4:6–7
|
do not be
anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of
God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds
in Christ Jesus.
|
1 Thessalonians
5:23–24
|
Now may the
God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and
soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus
Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
|
2
Thessalonians 3:16
|
Now may the
Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be
with you all.
|
Ephesians
3:14–21
|
For this
reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in
heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory
he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your
inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that
you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend
with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and
depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you
may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do
far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at
work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus
throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
